Saturday Night Fever

Xuan used to just "wriggle on the spot" whenever she hears music. This time not only did she manage to press the buttons (she used to try but it's always not hard enough), she danced to the music!

Happy First Birthday!

Whenever the weather changes, xuanxuan will start to cough with phlem and get a runny nose. Supposedly it's because she has sensitive skin and nose (she has eczema behind her ears and at the inner fold of her elbow). Doctor says it's hereditary but so far none of her paternal and maternal relatives recall having sensitive nose and skin :S:S

So poor Melody spent her first birthday sleeping most of the day away. At night we went to Chevrons (where her mama and daddy got married!) for a good dinner and to sing happy birthday! :D:D

Happy Lunar Birthday!

Today is Xiangxiang's Lunar birthday, but we celebrated Xuan's birthday together anyway. Look how much they have grown!

This is their cake:

Other than cutting cake and having a feast among the 2 families, we also 'predicted' the 2 babies' future by giving them 5 things to take- a pen (likes to write), a book(likes to read), an abacus(likes maths), a ruler(likes to design and draw), and chicken (likes to eat)! My sis prepared the items, as adviced by her colleagues. And my little Melody likes her pen so much she wouldn't let her grandma take it from her!

Little Butterfly

I bought 4 finger puppet books and recently, xuan's favourite is Little Butterfly. When we wriggle the little caterpillar, she will grab it and go "ahhhhhh!" taught by her dearest daddy.

Passing things

Xuan is starting to pass things (not just from one hand to the other) to us :):) And when she does she makes this little sound and this face that makes her look so serious.

Saying "No"!

She has learnt how to say "no"! This morning, when I brought her to the marketplace, the soyabean stall aunty put her arms out to carry her, and she shook her head no! So cute! :):) (ok I know I'm going to have a headache later on when she says "no" to everything) Nevertheless, it's a social response and I'm glad she reached another milestone in her life--learning how to interact.

She has a scar on her forehead this weekend cos she fought for a book at her infant care with another baby, and the other baby let go of her grip suddenly, causing a jerk backwards and 2 scratches on my baby's forehead. Poor Melody! Well, but it's part and parcel of growing up. The caretakers there have told me before how some parents blame them when their babies knock their head on some wall or cupboard when they roam about. I don't think any blaming should be done cos they can't be beside the baby 24-7, can they? Accidents also happen even when an adult is right beside the baby.

------------------------------------

I'm reading "On Parenting" by Benjamin Spock, M.D. Sfar the gist of it is that love and security is the basis for disciplining, educating, and shaping the baby's moral values. There are a lot of anxieties in our stressful lives, whether or not we raise a superkid is one of them, but rather than putting her into a thousand and one classes, it's more important that she gets fun out of it than grades.

Although traditionally, the mother does most of the discipline, and a father, after a long day at home, generally gives in more to the kid cos it always nice to be the "nice guy", a baby girl will feel attached to her father esp around the age of 2, and her relationship with the males later on in her life is largely shaped by the relationship with her father. So how the father acts around the house in front of the kid has a deeper impact on the girl than we imagine.

I'm lucky to have a hubby who plays a very active role at home, whether it's sharing the household chores or caring for the baby :):):) Thank you daddy!
